School Focused Youth Service (SFYS)

What is School Focused Youth Service (SFYS)?

SFYS is available to support students from Grade 5 to Year 12 who are attending school but are vulnerable to or showing signs of disengaging from school (SFYS target group).

How can School Focused Youth Service assist vulnerable students?

SFYS works with schools to establish and deliver funded interventions for the SFYS target group. The key features of these interventions are that they provide opportunities for these students to:
  • improve their social and emotional skills
  • experience success
  • foster greater self-esteem
  • develop more positive attitudes towards learning
  • increase connectedness to school

SFYS also provides funding for the capacity building of school staff to ensure an ongoing process of improved teaching practice and improved student learning. Capacity building activities will generally consist of a professional development program, aimed at increasing school staff’s understanding and/or ability to support the SFYS target group.

SFYS is not funded to provide clinical services for students or school staff.

Service availability:
  • Schools within the Gannawarra Shire Council
  • Selected schools within the Swan Hill Rural City Council, Loddon Shire, Buloke Shire and Campaspe Shire

For further information on our SFYS program, please contact Jim on 03 - 5451 0200.
